Birds, Bugs, and Beasts

A Montrealer by birth, George has been drawing and painting the Greater Montreal area for more than 45 years. He is a self taught artist who learned to draw detail by studying the bird paintings of J. Fenwick Lansdowne. As a teenager, he devoted innumerable hours to this study, gradually learning to paint a feather as though it were there on his canvas.

Though he worked for 40 years in the equities business as floor trader and institutional trader, George always found the time to paint. He worked to portray buildings and street scenes in Montreal and the beautiful landscapes of the Quebec countryside. With retirement and the leisure time to visit other provinces, he decided to capture some of the more poignant scenes on canvas, in order to share the beauty of our country with others.

It has been George’s lifelong dream to paint as a full time profession and he intends to devote the next phase of his life to capturing special places in every province in Canada. Sometimes, he paints typical scenes of crops, farms, lighthouses or grain elevators, Other times, he finds areas which show the lifestyle of an other age which, though ravaged by time, still stand as tribute to the fortitude of our forefathers.
