How to stop your baby from
CRYING

(Today's Parents Magazine- Baby steps*)

There is so much you would want to know about your baby overnight. How to hold him, how to feed him, how to give him a bath ...etc. But right now I would probably be happy to tell you some points to help you stop your baby from crying:
- Feeding:
check if your baby is hungry, feed him .. His crying is how your baby lets you know that he is hungry. In the first month, hunger is the most probable reason for crying
- Rocking:
For a cranky baby, a rhythmic, rocking motion may comfort crying. If a slow rocking motion does not calm your baby down, don't be afraid to quicken the pace to 60-70 rocks a minute.
- Swaddling:
Some babies like to feel something, or someone, warm against their skin. If your baby cries during bathing, or dressing, swaddling the baby firmly in a soft baby quilt or receiving blanket directly afterwards may soothe the tears.
- Patting or Burping:
Your baby may be crying because of unreleased gas. Extended burping, or patting your baby on the back, or rubbing the stomach may help bring up gas. Your hand on your baby's stomach may also comfort your baby as you change a diaper.
- Sucking:
Many babies use sucking to soothe themselves. Try using a pacifier, or even your own clean little finger.
- Distracting:
Sometimes a baby can forget about what was so upsetting in the first place. Distracting your baby with bright, colourful patterns, a small hand mirror, or walking around your house looking at things are all good ways to distract your baby from crying.
