Carry the division as if the decimal (coma) does not exist
Count the number of digits to the right of the decimal in each one (the number you dividing and the nuber you dividing by)
Subtract the number of digits of the "devided by" number from the number of digits of the "divided" number
If the result is positive Locate the decimal coma the same number of places from the extreme right of the result
If the result is negative add the same number of zeros to the extreme right of the result
Examples
Divide 12.8 by 6.4
- The initial result is 2
- The number of digits to the right of the decimal in the number you are "dividing" is =1
- The number of digits to the right of the decimal in the "divide by" number is =1
- Subtract 1 from 1 the result is 0
- The final result will be 2
- Divide 6.25 by 2.5
- The initial result is 25
- The number of digits to the right of the decimal in the number you are "dividing" is 2
- The number of digits to the right of the decimal in the "divide by" number is =1
- Subtract 1 from 2 the result is 1
- The final result will be 2.5
- Divide 121 by 1.1
- The initial result is 11
- The number of digits to the right of the decimal in the number you are "dividing" is =0
- The number of digits to the right of the decimal in the "divide by" number is =1
- Subtract 1 from 0 the result is -1 (negative)
- Add one zero to the initial result
- The final result will be 110
- Divide 12.1 by 11
- The initial result is 11
- The number of digits to the right of the number you are dividing is =1
- The number of digits to the right of the divide by number is =0
- Subtract 0 from 1 the result is +1 (positive)
- Place the decimal coma one digit to the left from the extreme right of the initial result
- The final result will be 1.1
