   Original Degas Autographed Letter To Louis Braquaval 

 Edgar Degas, 1834 / 1917. French artist famous for his work in painting, sculpture, printmaking & drawing. Regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism although he rejected the term, & preferred to be called a realist. Especially identified with the subject of the dance, over half his works depict dancers. These display his mastery in the depiction of movement, as do his racecourse subjects & female nudes. His portraits are considered to be among the finest in the history of art. ALS, Sunday, addressed to his friend, the painter, Louis Braquaval [1854 -1919]. n.p. n.d., In French, translated as: " I was going to go there. No, it is not just that I egg you on, because your letter tells me that you are going to Arques. No, it's your fault. I was going to leave. / But we will still have some beautiful days. I shall go. I feel like having some fresh air and seeing you. The studio is beginning to oppress a bit. / Greetings to your ladies and to you. Regards to Mr. and Mrs. Porion. / Degas".
