A near fine copy of the 1st in a unique presentation gift binding of red polished calf &  matching custom slipcase with Einstein's signature gilt-stamped on the spine & front cover. [a bit of rubbing at the extremities]. The book was gifted in 1957-1958 to the First President of the Friends Of The Hebrew University Of Jerusalem In Mexico in recognition of her various contributions. Einstein had a close affiliation with The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel's oldest University & one of Israel 's largest and most important academic centers. Mounted on the front endpaper is a miniature of a letter dated December 9th, 1957 from Miss Helen Dukas, the late Professor's Einstein's secretary, addressed to the Amigos de la Universidad Hebrew de Jerusalem in Mexico, authenticating the Einstein signature in the book. 8vo., pp 282. WITH OTHER OPINIONS AND APHORISMS. New York: Covici Friede, 1931. An excellent First Edition of this very scarce and sought-after philosophical book written by the great physicist Albert Einstein.  Einstein argues for a "cosmic" religion not based on rules of doctrines or specific views of "God". he argues that science and religion are compatible and that science is the basis for a more enlightened religion. This book also includes essays on Pacificism, disarmament, Zionism, and even the new influence of the radio. A fine copy in a very nice example of the very uncommon dustwrapper which has had a few chips professionally restored. Of particular note is the light weight, easily damaged grade of stock used for the wrapper. A very nice copy. $1325
